Away from our usual major projects involvement our residential, refurbishment and insurance related accident rebuild supervision, contracts continue to grow. As well as the continuing work in the Lipson area of Plymouth we have recently added a small but very different contract in Cornwall. In a magnificent house, circa 1870, a large chunk of ceiling descended rapidly and noisily into the dining room. No obvious reason for the collapse but interesting, large room, high ceilings with cornices to be protected, not to mention severe access restrictions.
Happy to report that the contractor we appointed to undertake the work did a very high class job, to time and to budget. In fact, as a matter of re-assurance the property owner appointed the contractor to undertake the removal and replacement of other ceilings in the house. She has also been kind enough to recommend us to others.
The only drawback was the refusal at first of the insurance company to meet our bill, which had been presented at previously agreed rates under the open book policy, we always adopt for this type of contract. Fortunately the contract was correctly set up and administered, meeting the approval of the courts.
